RUN YUE2 LOCALLY
Run YuE2 locally: VRAM, install steps, Mac and GGUF
YuE2-3B is published with open weights, so you can run it on your own machine. The official runtime targets one configuration; everything else is community work. This page separates the two and gives the numbers the authors measured.

OFFICIAL REQUIREMENTS
What the authors support
| Component | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Linux |
| Python | 3.12 for the GitHub install; the Hugging Face wheel lists 3.10+ |
| GPU | NVIDIA with BF16 support and 24 GB VRAM |
| Host RAM | 24 GB available |
| Precision | BF16 model, FP32 VAE, no quantization |
| Concurrency | One song at a time in the standard pipeline |
Model files download from Hugging Face on first use. The generation checkpoint is m-a-p/YuE2-3B and the default decoder is m-a-p/YuE2-Vae; YuE2-Vae-legacy exists for reproducing the paper’s benchmark, and SheetSage2 is the transcription model used for covers.
YUE2 VRAM
Measured VRAM and speed
| GPU | Planning mode | Generation time | Audio length | Peak VRAM |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| RTX 4090 24GB | full | 71.04 s | 214.85 s | 11.18 GiB |
| RTX 4090 24GB | melody | 68.68 s | 214.67 s | 11.02 GiB |
| RTX 4090 24GB | off | 57.91 s | 196.88 s | 11.09 GiB |
| H800 80GB | full | 54.74 s | 224.96 s | 10.34 GiB |
Maximum-context testing peaked at 14.08 GiB. The measured peaks are well under 24 GB, but the authors still specify a 24 GB GPU and 24 GB of available host RAM as the supported baseline, and their agent skill warns against silently shortening a song or lowering settings to hide an out-of-memory error.
YUE2 INSTALL
Install from GitHub
git clone https://github.com/multimodal-art-projection/YuE.git
cd YuE
python3.12 -m venv .venv
source .venv/bin/activate
python -m pip install --upgrade pip
python -m pip install .
python examples/generate.py --output outputs/first-songThe first run writes outputs/first-song/audio.flac and keeps the score, semantic tokens, acoustic latents and generation settings beside it. A staged Python API exposes plan(), generate_semantic(), synthesize() and decode() when you want to edit the score between steps.
The original YuE model is not the same code: it is preserved on the YuE-v1 branch of the same repository with its own documentation and licence.
YUE2 ON MAC
Apple Silicon: community ports only
The official quick start lists Linux and NVIDIA only, with no macOS build. Running YuE2 on a Mac currently means a third-party MLX port. These projects are independent of the YuE2 authors, and this site has not tested them.
| Project | What it is | Stated requirements |
|---|---|---|
| yue2-mlx (daig) | Native MLX engine with a macOS app and CLI; labelled experimental | Validated on an M5 MacBook Air with 32 GB; macOS 26.2 or newer; about 20 GB free disk |
| YuE2 Studio (stavitian) | macOS app and installer built on an MLX port, with patches for 24 GB Macs | Apple Silicon M1–M5; 24 GB unified memory minimum, 32 GB+ comfortable; about 14 GB disk |
The YuE2 Studio author reports a 3:20 song taking 337 seconds at 32 steps on a MacBook Pro M5 Pro with 24 GB, with a 10.4 GiB memory peak. Treat that as one user’s measurement rather than a specification. Intel Macs are not supported by either project.
YUE2 GGUF
Quantized builds for smaller cards
The reference runtime runs without quantization. Smaller footprints come from other projects:
- ComfyUI’s native nodes load their own checkpoint, yue2_3b_int8_convrot.safetensors, which is an int8 build going by its filename.
- yue2.cpp is a community C++ implementation that loads GGUF files and runs on CPU, CUDA or Vulkan. It includes an embedded web UI served from a local port.
| File | Quantization | Size |
|---|---|---|
| YuE2-3B-BF16.gguf | BF16 | 7.17 GB |
| YuE2-3B-Q8_0.gguf | Q8_0 | 3.81 GB |
| YuE2-3B-Q6_K.gguf | Q6_K | 2.94 GB |
| YuE2-3B-Q5_K_M.gguf | Q5_K_M | 2.62 GB |
The maintainer describes Q8_0 as near lossless and publishes nothing below Q5. These are third-party conversions that this site has not tested; the weights keep their CC BY-NC 4.0 licence.
YUE2 LICENCE
Open source, with terms on the weights
The code, agent skill and documentation are Apache 2.0. The model weights are CC BY-NC 4.0 with an additional creator permission. The authors summarise it this way:
| Use | Terms |
|---|---|
| Personal users, content creators and musicians | Free to use YuE2 and monetize generated outputs, with no fees or royalties payable to the authors |
| Academic research and education | Free for non-commercial use |
| Commercial use by companies | Contact the authors about a commercial licence for the weights |
This is a summary, not legal advice. The full terms are in the MODEL_LICENSE file of the upstream repository. Tracks made in this studio are covered by the yue2.pro Terms.
WITHOUT A GPU
When local is not worth it yet
A local install pays off when you want the editable score, covers from your own transcriptions, or many generations on hardware you already own. If you only want to hear what the model does with a set of lyrics, the browser studio sends a style brief and lyrics to hosted YuE2-3B inference and returns an MP3, with the credit cost shown before you submit.
QUESTIONS
Short answers.
Answers are drawn from the sources listed below and from how this studio works today.
How much VRAM does YuE2 need?
The authors specify an NVIDIA GPU with BF16 support and 24 GB of VRAM. Their measured peak on an RTX 4090 was 11.18 GiB for a 3.6-minute song with full planning, and 14.08 GiB in maximum-context testing.
Can YuE2 run on a 12 GB or 16 GB GPU?
Not in the officially supported configuration, which is 24 GB without quantization. Community options such as GGUF builds for yue2.cpp and ComfyUI’s int8 checkpoint reduce the footprint; this site has not tested them.
Does YuE2 run on Mac?
There is no official macOS build. Community MLX ports such as yue2-mlx and YuE2 Studio run it on Apple Silicon, with 24 GB to 32 GB of unified memory stated in their READMEs. They are independent of the YuE2 authors.
Is there a YuE2 web UI?
The official release is a Python package and command line. ComfyUI has native nodes, the community yue2.cpp project ships an embedded web UI, and YuE2 Studio is a macOS app. yue2.pro is an independent browser studio using hosted inference.
Where do I download YuE2?
The weights are on Hugging Face at m-a-p/YuE2-3B, with the decoder at m-a-p/YuE2-Vae. The code is on GitHub at multimodal-art-projection/YuE.
Is YuE2 open source?
The code is Apache 2.0. The weights are openly downloadable under CC BY-NC 4.0 with an additional creator permission, so company commercial use of the weights needs a separate licence from the authors.
How fast is YuE2?
The authors measured about 71 seconds to generate a 3.6-minute song on an RTX 4090 with full planning, averaged over 32 warm requests.
